Self Description Teaching is an art that few understand and even fewer truly master. It takes experience, training, dedication, and a passion for the field – all qualities that I have absorbed fully. I have devoted over four years to developing the strongest teaching qualities possible. My experiences have led me to many challenging and varied environments, and each has taught me crucial lessons that make me an effective educator. I have overcome the most difficult learning problems (autism, attention disorders, poor motivation, depression and so on), dealt with every learning styles (visual, auditory, rhythmic, and tangible learners), and have seen which teaching methods work best. I know what will provide results, and I can apply it to students of all levels, motivations, and backgrounds. My students enjoy their experience because they can see their skills grow monthly, weekly, even daily! My energy and charisma keeps students captivated, and motivated. They are eager to enter the classroom, to challenge themselves, and they perform exceptionally because of it. My first step is to explore my students' abilities and character. The best way to be effective with a student is for the teacher to understand their pupil. For the first week, I design my exercises to test the current knowledge of my students. Exercises will test listening, reading, and speaking skills, and in which ways these skills are best/worst expressed. Once this has been done, my curriculum is redesigned in order to address major problems that I see with the students. I always prepare my curriculum/lessons plans ahead of time, in order to set goals for myself and my students. Any modifications that need to be made are in content, not in the pace, and final level of proficiency that my students should acquire. By not compromising the goals, I help to create a competitive, energetic, and challenging atmosphere. Nothing is worse for a student than repeating material already learned. It stifles the students' concentration, attention, and motivation. The last major aspect of my teaching style that has ensured greater success in past positions is to ensure that education does not stop in the classroom. I like to organize after-school opportunities such as movie seminars (in English), excursions to major attractions, where I act as an English tour guide (at a museum for example.) In the past I have also organized soccer teams (taught in English) and reading clubs. This extent of these activities has always depended on the school and the culture involved, but I always try to harness any and all resources I have available to expose my students to the most learning possible.
Proven Track Record 1) Student in King Edward School increased letter grade from C- to B+ (2006) 2) Commissioned by teachers to visit classrooms and deliver my seminars on improving student study habits and analytical thinking skills 3) My 368 Learn! company expanded its student base from 6 to 34 in one year. The average percentage grade increase was 9% (i.e. from 62% to 71%, or 80% to 89%) 4) Zivana Bijelic increased her Mathematics grade by 42% (from 52% to 94%), and has been accepted to the prestigious Ryerson University Janary 2008. 5) Brian Chamney improved mathematics grades 13% (from 65% to 78%) 6) Visitors and group reservations at our Museum courses/guided tours increased by 78% over one year.
