Self Description
            “Only the educated are free.” -Epictetus (55 AD - 135 AD) My given name is Sze Seau. My colleagues call me Jill. I enjoy working with young adults and in life, I want to spend as much time doing what I believe in --- teach. I have excellent academic achievements and I truly believe in the value of education. Many people ask me: “Why teach? You can do so much more with your results.” My answer to them is: “Why not? Would you want idiots to teach your children?” Far from being empty vessels, every student has something to offer and has a niche to be discovered. From my experience, there are no stupid students in mainstream schools --- only shallow, misguided and disillusioned young people. However, without proper guidance, they may just grow into stupid adults. The task to guide young people toward a rewarding path is more challenging than ever. With the lure of hypnotizing computer games and exhilarating entertainment avenues, even holding the young’s attention for a mere five minutes becomes a colossal challenge. Nonetheless, qualification aside, I also have the patience and passion to engage them because I believe in education. As suggested by the quote above, I believe in the clichéd idea that education gives you wings. A balanced all-round education frees the mind to make wise choices, calculated risks and breaks down the manacles of prejudice. I see myself as a teacher who guides her students toward independent and continuous learning. I have spent most of my life expanding my interest in English Literature since I discovered it when I was 16. My dwelling in this interest has shown me that with more sensitivity toward language and writing throughout the world and history, we would all bloom into better people. People with good language skills do not only earn more money and get better jobs; they inspire and persuade others to follow their lead. Yours sincerely, JILL
